A lovely afternoon on the allotment and the rain stayed off. It was quieter than previous open days but there is now a core of youngsters who look forward to coming on site many of whom are as interested in planting as playing. The day was made possible by the quiet methodical work of Murt (South) and the sandwiches etc prepared by Nefertiti (Central).
Joe was brilliant as usual, getting the children to make maps of the allotment, choose a plant, which they have labelled and pledged to look after. The idea is they can take whatever that plant bears which we should bear in mind when it comes to harvest. If I get a chance I’ll help them make better labels with their photos on.
A group of about 8 girls showed off their team dancing and Diversity-style formation acrobatics which has great potential.
We thinned the brassicas and swedes. Salads and carrots will need to be a bit bigger before translanting any seedlings.
